It depends on the material that you choose to use. An average session is about 15 minutes long. Again, it depends on the strength of each pull you take through the mouthpiece, but typically it lasts two hours. This will reduce the efficiency of your Iolite and, as a result, the overall experience.
The great thing about the Iolite is that it is portable, so it can easily be carried in one hand. How you hold it is up to you, but, to get the best access to the mouthpiece, try holding it with the ribbed effect towards you. Ultem is a very high grade, strong, quality plastic. It is used in the hi-tech food industry, so rest assured that it is odourless and tasteless.
It is also strong and lightweight. It has minimal heat transfer to keep your Iolite as cool to the touch as possible. Try puffing it like a cigar, just until you get comfortable with it. If you use your Iolite a lot then certain elements are likely to need replacing, including the mesh in the filling chamber, on older models the mesh in the heat pin chamber, the filling chamber and mouthpiece.
Spare parts can be ordered from our online store. The catalytic process requires oxygen to work and this can be severely hampered if the Iolite is in its carrying pouch.
Also bear in mind the current local barometric pressure as this may have a compound affect at high altitude. If you have a simple gas lighter and that works then the vaporizer should, in theory, work as well but it is not guaranteed. I have experienced superior vapor flavor and quality without the moisture condensor. It is the small metal thing in the plastic bag that came with the iolite. I have used it several times for experimentation with muchy drier herb, and it truly isn't worth it.
Although this sounds wierd Treat your device with care and consideration. The iolite is more like a lady than a machine. Take her apart, know her inside out, listen to her, understand what she's bitching about. If the butane flow sounds like it's spurting when you turn it on that's what she said , your iolite is to cold. If you can barely hear the flow, turn it off and wait 5 minutes you impachient stoner you. Please submit any other tips or tricks to getting the iolite to work everytime and anytime.
I made some additional recommendations regarding the draw in the official Iolite thread which I'll re-post here. Biggest key to getting the best hits out of this thing is a really, really slow draw. And I mean slow. Put your lips on it and pull slowly, do you hear a slight whistling sound? That might feel slow but it's too fast. You want to just barely pull air through the mouthpiece for as long as possible seconds. This seems to give the hot air lots of time to sit in the chamber and mix with your herb.
I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, or if the whistling noise I use as a guideline on mine is even made by everyone's I use the slightly longer mouthpiece included with the models , but pulling this slowly gives me big, satisfying rips every time.
My other tip has been repeated many times, but I don't think everybody has caught on yet. Bleed the tank! If you find the unit isn't igniting after 3 clicks of the button, take a pen, toothpick, whatever, and depress the filling nozzle. This will bleed all the extra air out of your tank and the heating system. If you've refilled then you're going to lose a little butane, but it beats getting frustrated by clicking the piezo a hundred times over.
I've never not had it start on the first try after bleeding and refilling the tank. If you're still having problems the above tip about keeping it warm is also great advice. Butane boils at room temperature, which I assume is why the cold can cause issues. Happy Vaping! Also, if you're a new Iolite owner, you might have seen a lot of tips telling you to "remove" the moisture condenser.
When I got mine I tried to figure out how to do so, but eventually figured out that the condenser I'd heard about wasn't in my unit, but in the bag. I'm guessing that means they used to put it in the unit when they shipped. If you're buying a new Iolite, the company has already done your work for you.
Leave that thing in the bag where it belongs. The few times i freaked out that something was wrong it would stutter and stuff when heating or other similar issues it turned out to be the tank was just pretty much empty, cuz I would bleed and pressure would die in a few secs The last thing that I wish was a little bit better is the size and smoothness of the draws.
If you want to see how the iolite compares to other portable vaporizers, including its newer sister model the WISPR, check out my website VapeCritic. Those who have aspirations have thousands of things, and those who have no ambitions only feel that it is difficult. If you have one or plan on getting one, keep it clean and hold on to it!
They will probably be in a museum next to the brick phones someday! It will be a sad sad day if mine ever quits. I would be happy if the plastic next to the butane liquid bottle cover, would be transparent so that the amount of liquid could be seen. I have three different portable vapes and I always go back to my Iolite. My Arizer Solo sucks in a bad way and so does their customer service! It takes a while experimenting to get the most out of it.
My iolite mk1 lasted me a good couple of years heavy use, it went up mountains and to gigs, and it looks so much like a radio nobody ever questions it if you leave it out. I will try the recommended method of purging and filling before each use. Soooo, I bought mine from a head shop in or so. I still use it and it works like a powerhouse. I use it when I have time to sit and relax. It takes practice and timing , but you can get really good hits from it.
I feel bad for people who got defective ones and I feel lucky given how often I hear about it. Mine is so old and beat up that the gas starts to sputter sometimes but still maintains heat like it did when I first got it.
That being said, I want to get a Firefly next and use my iolite for camping or other emergencies. But it keeps going strong, never had any issues with it. Lol, I feel the same way about my old beat up iolite.
I am looking into getting a new portable possibly the firefly or crafty and reserving my iolite for emergencies or camping. I wonder if the newer models are more cheaply made? Would you say the butane tends to last longer or as much as a battery powered tank? I dont know what yall are talking about must of been blitzed out of your mind to make this judgement. If you do everything correctly it should work just fine. Had mine for 5 years now and still works great! This requires a lot of patience though, and waiting the minutes is enough to get started on some lighter and thinner vapour.
Hi and thanks for your great review, I just bought one and am very happy, but a couple of concerns…. I am thinking maybe I am using it too much with one load?
Mixed reviews. I loosely fill the bowl to its own level and do not pack it in at all. Hello Bud! Congratulations, the idea of your site is awesome. I bought an Iolite last year and it broke very easily. I was just trying to fill it with gas and the injection nozzle broke, making it impossible to fill. I liked it at first although it feels a bit noisy and hot to handle. Can you help me?
