It was the accepted, traditional understanding of marriage at the time. What a person believes is none of anyone's business but their own. If those women enter into their plural marriage knowingly and willingly, that is between them and their husband and their sister wives. Just because you disagree doesn't make it wrong.
I would like to see multiple marriage legalized and equal. Sure, it would mean a lot of laws would need to be reworked to make it fair and not an undue burden, but it could be done.
